Healthy gut means healthy skin

Updated: Sep 1

Do you struggle from acne, rosacea, wrinkling, hyperpigmentation? Do you also suffer from constipation, bloating, diarrhea, food intolerance? The science is now pointing toward our gut having an impact on the appearance of our skin.

What is the connection?

When the gut and all the billions of bugs that live in it becomes out of whack it causes a cascade of problems throughout our bodies. An improper balance of gut bacteria causes inflammation and toxin build up which can present itself on our skin. Optimizing gut health and detoxification is essential to having healthy and radiant skin.

How do I know if I have good or bad bacteria in my gut?

An overgrowth of bacteria in the intestines is called dysbiosis. There can also be fungi, parasites and pathogenic bacteria in our intestines causing symptoms like bloating, flatulence, abdominal pain, constipation and diarrhea. At Wave on Wave Health, we will do a comprehensive stool analysis that will tell us good and bad bacteria, pathogens as well as signs of food intolerance and leaky gut.

How do I treat my gut?

I like to to use a 5R approach to gut health: REMOVE pathogenic bacteria, fungi, allergens and parasites, REPLACE digestive enzymes, HCL, bile, REINOCULATE with probiotics, probiotic and prebiotic rich foods, REPAIR the gut lining with healing herbs and L-glutamine, and REBALANCE the mind because stress can have a negative effect on gut health. Optimizing diet, eliminating allergens, healing the gut wall, and up-regulating detoxification pathways are essential to a healthy gut and healthy skin. A combination of treatments along with diet are necessary to get to the bottom of your gut and skin problems!
