PRP Facial Recovery Time

Updated: Sep 5

What is the recovery time from a regenerative facial and when will I see results?

I have been getting a lot of questions from clients about the recovery time from a PRP Facial AKA "Vampire" Facial. At Wave on Wave Health we call it a PRP Facial or regenerative facial because that is what is happening - Regeneration and Remodeling. Here is the breakdown:

PHASE 1: INFLAMMATION:

This stage lasts for 2-3 days. During this stage fibroblasts and inflammatory mediators are recruited to the site to breakdown old cells. During this stage it is important to avoid direct sunlight. After the first 48 hours the micro-injuries made to the skin through the microneedling process have mostly healed and it is now appropriate to apply sunscreen. It is also important to avoid any high intensity exercise that causes a great deal of sweating during the first 48 hours after the facial. I recommend switching to yoga and/or pilates for this time period. The skin can have a sunburn appearance to it for the first 2-3 days followed by light flaking and peeling around day 3-5 post facial. It is important to use a good, non-comedogenic moisturizer during this time period. I love jojoba oil!

PHASE 2: REGENERATION:

This stage lasts for several weeks! This is the time when new collagen is stimulated by growth factors and cytokines. During this stage you are able to continue on with your normal skin care routine, sit back and watch your skin continue to improve! I always recommend a more natural approach to skin care and makeup and to use products with ingredients that come from the earth.

PHASE 3: REMODELING:

This stage lasts for months. In this stage the production of new collagen continues to strengthen, lift and tighten the skin and fill in fine lines and wrinkles. The skin is regenerated and rejuvenated resulting in a smooth appearance and youthful feel! This stage can continue for up to 1 year in some patients, but typically lasts 6 months. I recommend 3 to 4 treatments the first year with maintenance treatments 1 to 2 times per year to follow.
