Constipation can be brought on by poor diet, medication use, stress, toxins, etc leading to dysbiosis or bacterial imbalance in the GI tract as well inadequate digestion and absorption of food and slowed motility of the GI tract.
Typical treatments are aimed at treating the immediate symptom with medications like increasing fiber, using laxatives and increase fluid intake etc. Things like Fiber can make some symptoms worse depending on what is going on inside the GI tract and frequent laxative use can lead to dependence on these medications.
